Strange Audio Effects Used in Music Production

Here at Nostairway, site we do not just specialise in voice over and video production, but also audio production and music production; because of this we have heard many different audio effects on music tracks and songs. Especially since audio effects and stomp boxes became common, people have been experimenting to make new sounds to make their style and music sound unique, better or more interesting. Here we are going to look at some of these strange effects and how they are used to differentiate peoples music/style. Number 5 – Back masking (Playing a track backwards) Back masking isn’t just used by conspiracy theorists debating whether there are subliminal messages in modern pop music, it was first introduced and popularised by the Beatles when they introduced a back masked song into their 1966 album “Revolver”. Since then it has been used by bands such as Pink Floyd in their song “Empty Spaces” for comedic effect and in Weird Al Yankovic’s “Nature trail to hell”. Some people claim that some metal bands such a Slayer who used back masked messages that said things like “Join Us” were subliminal and satanic, but these claims are dismissed by the bands who claim use of this odd audio effect are for impact only. Here is a YouTube video revealing the secret message in Pink Floyds “Empty Spaces”: [youtube_sc url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfktg03AnNM” width=”640″ height=”360″ autohide=”1″] Number 4 – Phaser Most popularly used through the famous “Phase 90” pedal by MXR, the Phaser makes odd; rippling audio effects which is more weird sounding than flanging. It has been used in many songs such as Van Halens “Eruption” and...
