Upcoming Movies

2024 has already delivered a number of exciting titles that have caught the attention of moviegoers worldwide. Movies like Poor Things, The Zone of Interest, and All of Us Strangers have successfully captivated crowds and critics alike, and there appears to be many more like them on their way throughout the course of 2024.

This list will be comprised of 10 upcoming movies, listed in no particular order, that we believe have the potential to become some of the defining moments of cinema in 2024. Weather they become instant cult classics or best picture nominees, these are the films who’s opening nights need to be on your calendar.

  1. Monkey Man (April 5th)

Upcoming movies

Dev Patel takes on his feature length directorial debut both behind and in-front of the camera in this brutal looking action thriller. Produced by the one and only Jordan Peele, this movie is shaping up to be commercial success, and it only helps that it’s trailer premeired during one of the most watched sporting events in the world, the Super Bowl.

This film will see Patel play a young man working in an underground fight club in Mumbai, we will follow his character’s journey to exact revenge on a group of corrupt city elites that are responsible for the death of his mother. So if you love a good ol’ fashion revenge story and you love Dev Patel, this movie is simply a must see.

2.  Spaceman (February 23rd)

This film follows Adam Sandler who plays an astronaut that has been sent to the edge of the solar system, and as his life back home begins to crumble the only one left to console him is an intergalactic creature depicted as a large tarantula that also happens to be voiced by Paul Dano, what’s not to lonew moviesve!

This film will have a limited theatrical release on the 23rd but will then be released to Netflix on the 1st of March. This will be Sandler’s newest large scale non-comedic role since he starred in Uncut Gems, so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the table. With such an out of this world concept, it is safe to say that this film will be at least a popular talking point amongst this year’s upcoming movies.

3. Wicked Little Letters (February 23rd)

Another addition to the upcoming movies that are right around the corner, Wicked Little Letters promises to be comedic gold. At the head of this project we have none other than the legendary Olivia Coleman and the rising star Jessie Buckley, supported by the talented Anjana Vasan. With such a skilled group of actresses playing the leads, it is safe to say that this movie is in good hands.

The story will follow the true tale of a town whose residents begin to receive random letters filled with profanities and insults, and how after Coleman’s uptight character Edith accuses the rebellious Rose played by Buckley, the town becomes the setting of a hilarious whodunnit investigation.

4. Challengers (April 26th)movies in 2024

This Romance/Drama will see a master of the genre, Luca Guadagnino who is renowned for films like Call Me By Your Name, direct the wildly talented Zendaya. This film that was set to release September of 2023, but got delayed due to the strikes, has certainly built up some anticipation amongst viewers who are ready to see Zendaya continue to show off her acting chops in leading roles. Supported by Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, this love triangle drama is sure to keep audiences on their toes.

The story will follow a tennis prodigy turned coach following a detrimental leg injury, who is married to a rising champion who has recently fallen into a losing streak. To try and escape this streak, he enters a challenger match, and the couple is surprised to find that the challenger is none other than the ex-best friend of the champion and the ex-boyfriend of the coach.

5. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (May 24th) 

New movies for 2024Amongst the plethora of exciting sequels, prequels, and reboots coming to theatres this year, George Miller’s return to the universe of Mad Max seems to be one of the most anticipated. With two heavy hitting names leading the cast list, Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, this high speed action-thriller is sure to be significant in the box office. After Miller’s first installation had a massive run at the Oscars, it will be interesting to see if his second roars back into awards season.

This film will follow the story of Furiosa, a young girl kidnapped and wound up in a battle between two tyrants over dominance of the post apocalyptic wasteland. She must navigate this bloody gasoline fueled war in order to find her way back home.

6. Longlegs (July 12th)

For the horror movie fanatics, Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs should definitely be on your radar. When a trailer leaves the viewer with infinitely more questions then answers, it is evident that audiences will be in for a dark and demonic ride this summer. Out of the upcoming movies on this list, this is certainly the most vague in how it’s been promoted, overall adding to the ominous atmosphere surrounding the film. It is to the point where Nicolas Cage, who has been listed as one of the leads, has barely appeared in one of the trailers.

The basic outline of this film is that of an investigation into a rampant serial killer, whose connections to a certain occult reveals something darker about the motives behind his killings.

7. Inside Out 2 (June 17th)

On a more wholesome note, this summer we are finally getting a sequel to the Pixar movie that both warmed and broke the hearts of millions, child and adult alike. Stars Amy Poehler and Lewis Black return amongst newcomers like Maya Hawk to voice the famed emotions, hoping to follow up the Oscar award winning original installation with a fresh new take on the concept.

The story follows the familiar Riley along with the emotions living in her head as they go about their everyday business, this is until things begin to change and new emotions arrive such as Anxiety, announcing the start of Riley’s teenage years.

8. Love Lies Bleeding (May 3rd)movies for 2024

From the powerhouse of A24 and the genius mind of Rose Glass comes this blend of a retro action-packed crime thriller, with a steamy vibrant queer love story. Leading the cast is Kristen Stewart paired with Anna Baryshnikov, supported by Dave Franco. Not for the faint of heart, this film has become known for its blood and gore across it’s storyline filled with surprising twists and turns.

The story follows the romance between gym manager Lou and aspiring bodybuilder Jackie, who is on her way to Las Vegas to follow her dreams. As they become more and more entangled they find themselves deep in the violent business of Lou’s criminal family.

 9. The Bikeriders (June 21st) 

Another admitnew filmson to the list of upcoming movies that had been delayed due to the strikes is Jeff Nichols adaptation of real life events accounted in the book, The Bikeriders. At the head of this project are the actors Austin Butler and Jodie Comer, accompanied by Tom Hardy. This talented cast is sure to bring forward some powerful performances as they are backed by a writer/director that has been determined to tell this story since the 1960s.

 

This film will tell the story of a midwestern American biker gang that had risen in the 1960s. It will follow the growth of this gang from a smaller group of core members into a larger group that begins to use their power in more sinister ways, overall creating an internal conflict regarding why the gang was formed in the first place.

10. Joker: Folie à Deux (October 4th)

Todd Phillips returns to his DC Universe smash hit with a second installation to Arthur Fleck’s story, adding to the list of upcoming movies this year that have a lot to live up to. This sequel will see the return of Joaquin Phoenix to play his famed role, this time along side Lady Gaga in the role of Hmovies comping uparley Quinn.

Not much is known about the plot of this film, but it is safe to say it will be largely based around the love story between the Joker and Harley Quinn. One thing that has been confirmed about this film that nobody was expecting considering the tone of the original, is that it will be a musical.

 

11. So Ray (Coming Soon)

Bonus! Nostairway’s very own documentary is coming soon this year! So Ray will follow the inspiring So Ray - A Transgender Storystory of a man’s two year journey towards his gender reassignment surgery. The story spans from Ray’s life in the UK to the location of his surgery in New York. It is a film you simply can’t miss! So stay tuned as more information about the film’s release will be revealed in the near future.
