The experience of working in a creative production company in 2022
I graduated university right after the pandemic had really taken off, mid lockdown and isolation, not even getting to finish my dissertation film. For a while everything seemed hopeless when it came to my career in video production, most companies were not able to create films, and those who could were keeping on very limited staff. Every time I applied for a job I was competed with people who had years of professional experience, who were just as desperate as me to find work in the midst of the pandemic.
That’s why it was such a relief to me, when things started to cool down enough for productions to start up again, and that’s when I started working at NoStairway.
Now that’s not to say that everything is back to normal in the world of video production, things are definitely still harder than they once were, but we’re making it work.

Covid and social distancing aside, I think it’s going to be a good year for production, and this creative production company already has a lot of projects in the pipeline, ranging from documentaries, to corporate videos, to continuing the distribution of our feature film 7 Hours on Earth. We are going to be working non stop to bring high quality content to individuals and companies in London and across the UK.
As someone with the goal of eventually becoming some big shot film director, I used to feel like I needed to avoid making marketing or corporate videos. I guess because they didn’t feel ‘artsy’ enough. However, just briefly after starting my job at NoStairway I have realised how useful all this experience is going to be. Every single video production contributes directly to my skills in every stage of production, from idea development, to shooting, to post production.
I thought I could avoid learning the technical details of audio editing, always just asking someone else to do it, but that’s not an option here. We all learn how everything works, and I know this is going to make me a better filmmaker in the long run, because I’ll have a better understanding of all production departments. It’s comforting to know I won’t just stare blankly at audio people when they explain an editing issue to me from now on. I’ve learnt that well rounded people who can take on any task when needed is what makes an efficient creative production company.
